Across all industries and economies, COVID-19 has created a serious impact. Stay-At-Home orders around the country have remained the same as we are well into our second month of this pandemic.
Hospitality has been one of the most affected industries. As the world’s current situation continues to change each day, hotels have had to gear up for a new “normal” and create a recovery plan for when this ends.
At Front Desk Supply, we understand the impact this has left on hotels. We want to be a resource for hotels and we also shift gears in order to benefit the hospitality industry in the most effective way possible.

Here’s how the hotel industry is doing so far during COVID-19:
The Stats
With strict travel bans in place, hotel bookings have diminished. The Transportation Security Administration states that the number of travelers passing through U.S. airports has dropped 95% during the past few weeks compared to the same time period last year. According to STR’s Hotel Industry Impact Report, only 21.6% of hotel rooms in the United States were occupied between March 29th and April 4th. That is a 68% decrease when compared to the same week last year.
National Geographic has provided insightful graphs to understand the impact. “With data changing as quickly as COVID-19 spreads, taking a snapshot of the travel industry’s losses is difficult. These graphs offer a glimpse of how revenue losses as a result of the pandemic have hobbled an $8 trillion industry that supports more than one billion trips each year.”
What We Expect
In the midst of the madness, hotels have extended their services to a wider range of guests. From transforming empty rooms into isolation spaces, to offering free stays for truck drivers; everyone is doing their part to help. Hotels have begun to stock up on supplies such as masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer to continue to keep everyone safe and healthy. We predict these items will be used even when coronavirus is over, to ensure there is no more spreading. While we cannot predict when COVID-19 will slow down and end or what the outcome will be for the hospitality industry, we know how hard everyone is working to prepare and recover.
